Antique China

One of the most valuable types of antiques to many people is antique China. Not only is antique China very valuable, it is also very delicate. Just ask anyone who has ever owned some antique China and they will be quick to tell you that you really need to handle it with kid gloves.

Not only that, there are so many different types of antique China to choose from that often those that collect it need to narrow down their particular collection to just one or two types. Even just collecting one particular type of China will be enough to keep anybody happy because there is often quite a wide variety of pieces that are available.

Choosing the type of China that you are going to collect is a matter of personal taste. There are all different types and styles of China for you to choose from as well as a wide variety of different ages in which the China was made. Some people like to collect China because of the pattern that it contains.

Other people like to collect it because of the particular age in which it was made. It's nice just to own a piece of history that is his delicate and beautiful as China, especially when it is made it through all of those years in perfect condition. Even a small chip in a piece of China can also add a little bit of personality in a surprising way.

Caring for your antique China is a different story. Many people go to great lengths in order to take good care of and to display their China for anyone that visits. Some people even use their antique China functionally whenever there is a special event.

You would not want to use it for everyday use, simply because it probably would not be able to stand up against the everyday wear and tear that plate dishes tend to experience. Most times a simple washing in warm soapy water will suffice to keep your China clean and looking.

So take good care of your china and it will last you for a long time. You may even be able to pass it down from generation to generation and allow your children to enjoy the China just as you have.

Quick Tip #1

Why are you collecting? Be sure in your own mind what your collection is for. Is it for personal pleasure, in which case the values may be irrelevant, or is it for investment purposes and making money. In which case you must research the particular market and be aware of value and guard against fraudsters and fakes.

Quick Tip #2

Know your subject. There are many ways to do this. Use the Internet and search for blogs and websites in the area you are collecting. Also don't forget the more traditional sources such as your local library, antique shops, art galleries, bookshops and watch out for antique fairs in your area. Get into conversation with the dealers there and pump them for information. (While keeping a firm hold on your credit card!)

Quick Tip #3

Get a receipt! Whatever you are buying, whether for pleasure or profit, obtain a full receipt from the seller. This should contain all relevant information about the item you've bought. You never know, especially if it's a valuable and sought after piece, somewhere in the future you may have to prove where you got it from!
